Segment #3
(Includes multiple intelligence strategy:
Hands-on, small groups, reteaching strategy)
In groups of three, students will be performing a workout video. Another peer will be the camcorder operator. For detailed explanation see Segment #4 and Student Sample.
Segment #4
(Detailed directions on how to complete activity)
1. Begin anticipatory activity. Show students the variety of exercise equiptment teacher brought to class. Encourage students to try all of the pieces out and have fun with them. Tell students that these pieces can be incorporated into their workout video if they so choose.

2. Begin Segment #1. Teacher tells class that they will be watching the workout video Tae Bo Live! Explain to them that this video has three distinct parts: a warm up, cardio, and cool down.

3. Play the part of the video that contains the warm up. Stop the DVD when the warm up is complete.

4. Begin Segment #2. Ask the class why they think it is important to warm up before exercising. Call on a few students randomly to answer. Possible answers include: a warm up slowly prepares your body for exercising. It increases your heart rate. It increases the blood flow in your circulatory system. It mentally prepares you for your workout by clearing and focusing your mind.

5. Play the part of the video that contains the cardio. Stop he DVD when the cardio is complete. Explain that this is the most intense part of the workout where most of the calories are burned.

6. Play the part of the video that contains the cool down. Stop the DVD when the cool down is complete.

7. Ask the students what they think purpose of a cool down is. Call on a few students at random to answer. Possible answers include: Cooling down will slowly reduce your muscle and body temperature. It can reduce your risk for muscle injury, stiffness or soreness.

8. Ask students what they noticed about the difference between the warm up/cool down segments and the cardio. Call on a few students randomly to answer.

9. Using the class computer, play for the students the teacher sample workout video. Point out how it incorporated the three parts of an effective workout. Tell students that a requirement of their video is that it must contain all three segments.

10. Assign small groups of 3 students to work together to complete their own work out video.

11. Tell students that they will need to write a brief script of what they will be saying and doing in their video. Model it after the way the teacher narrated hers. This will be turned into the teacher.

12. Designate time for students to get into groups and brainstorm ideas for their workout video. At this time they will be writing their script.

13. Encourage students, within their group, to each take a turn speaking and leading the exercise video.

14. Distribute a video camera to each group.

15. Allow students to use an empty classroom or gymnasium to record their videos. Tell them that they will have to cooperate with other groups to video record each other.

16. Upon completion, students will post their videos to the class YouTube account.
